Vision, Aims & Values

“Making every day memorable”

At Woodlands Primary School, we strive to make every day memorable. Situated at the heart of our community, we provide a safe, caring and stimulating environment where we challenge each child to achieve their full potential through our relentless pursuit of excellence in progress and attainment, driven by the collaborative work of all staff and governors. We offer an exciting curriculum, inspiring a passion for lifelong learning, where the highest priority is placed on reading, writing and mathematics, whilst still providing children with the best possible opportunities in sport, drama, art and music. Through this, we expect every child to thrive academically, socially, emotionally and physically.

“11 before 11”

To provide children with the best possible opportunities and outcomes, and to improve their personal development, there are eleven things that children will have done on leaving the school in year six, which we call 11 before 11.

These are:

  • Learn to play a musical instrument and perform in an orchestra;
  • Develop a love of healthy, locally-grown (including at school) food through learning about nutrition, seasonality and different styles of cooking;
  • Perform a play on stage at the Salisbury Playhouse;
  • Visit a national art gallery;
  • Represent the school at a sporting event;
  • Gather data for fieldwork and learn about physical processes through an off-site river study;
  • Deepen understanding of local history by visiting Stonehenge, Old Sarum and Salisbury Cathedral, and national history at the Chalke Valley History Festival;
  • Develop mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs by visiting places of worship of the main religions of the United Kingdom;
  • Understand how rule of law and democracy works by visiting the Houses of Parliament in London;
  • Raise money for a chosen charity through entrepreneurial endeavour;
  • Feel challenged at an adventurous, outdoor residential on the Isle of Wight in Year 6;

At Woodlands Primary School we aim:

  • To provide a safe and nurturing setting in which children can learn effectively.
  • To provide a creative environment which enables each child to develop their potential academically, socially, emotionally and physically.
  • To provide a challenging curriculum in which each child develops confidence, independence, high self-esteem and self-discipline.
  • To encourage mutual respect and active participation within the wider community.
  • To develop in all children exemplary behaviour and a tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
  • To welcome parents as partners in their children’s education.
  • To foster links between local schools to ensure the education of each child is a smooth continuous process.
  • To celebrate achievement at every opportunity so children are inspired to be life-long learners.
