Dear Parents,

A Happy New Year to you all. This newsletter brings you news of future events and important information for the Spring Term 2015.

Woodlands PTFA News

I am pleased to report that the PTFA Christmas Bazaar (including the Father Christmas Grotto) raised £1085. This is a fantastic total and it will allow us to pay for the coach and ferry travel to the Isle of Wight when Y6 go to the Kingswood Centre in February. A huge thank-you to all members of the Woodlands PTFA who worked so hard to get raffle prizes, book stall holders and gave up time on the day to make this event such a success. Our next event will be the Easter Bingo evening.

Advance Notice - Book Week Events:

Book Character Dressing Up Day – Tuesday 3rd February 9.10

As part of book week we are asking the children to dress up as a book character on Tuesday 3rd February. Each class will have a competition for the best costume and the Salisbury Journal will be invited to take photographs.

Book at Bedtime – Wednesday 4th February 4.45-5.15

All children (including Nursery) are invited to come in for stories in their pyjamas. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served.

Workshop visit from the Story Making Factory

The Story Making Factory Workshops will help develop creative writing skills for pupils. Each session uses a set of story cards where each child has an input in a story created by the class. The sessions encourage imagination, expression and are very interactive.

Lateness & book bags

I am pleased to report that school attendance levels were at a record high in the Autumn Term with many children receiving certificates for 100% attendance. However there is still a problem with children arriving at school late. This makes it very hard to organise school hot dinners and ensure the correct number of lunches are ordered. Can I remind all parents that school starts at 9am and children are welcome to come into school between 8.50am and 9.00am. If a child arrives after 9.00am then the parent must sign the late register and book in a hot dinner if needed. In addition to this can parents remember to collect their children promptly at 3.20pm. This is particularly important when a child attends an after school club. Can I remind all parents that Homework Club finishes at 4.15pm.

PTFA Non-School uniform day – Friday 30th January - £1 per child

Our next non-school uniform day will be held on Friday 30th January. If every child manages to bring in £1 then we will raise over £200 for PTA funds. This will be used to pay towards the cost of the Robin Hood Pantomime from M&M Productions that will be visiting the school on Friday 6th February.

***PTFA - EASTER BINGO EVENING*** - This will take place on Friday 20th March

Doors Open 6.30pm Eyes Down at 7.00pm

Prizes for a line and a full house / Easter Raffle / Bottle Tombola / Refreshments

Dear Parents,

School Uniform & PE Kit

It has been great to see so many children coming into school wearing smart new uniforms. Can I remind parents that girls should not be wearing leggings as they are not appropriate for school wear.

2014 Price List: Jumpers £8.50, Cardigans £10, Children’s Fleeces £13.00, PE T-Shirts £2.50, Book Bags £4.00.

All children in KS1 and KS2 should be wearing a house colour PE T-Shirt, shorts/Jogging tracksuit and trainers. The T-Shirts can be bought from the school office and are excellent value at £2.50. Could you please ensure that all uniform and PE Kit is named.

Collecting children on time – at 3.20pm and collecting on time from clubs

I would also like to remind parents of the importance of collecting your child by 3.20pm. If you haven't already informed us of the names of those individuals who will usually be collecting your child/children after school, please could you let the school office know. This is to ensure the safety and security of your child. If your contact telephone numbers change/have changed can you let the office know immediately. Can I remind all parents to make sure your child is collected on time at the end of an after-school club.

Dear Parents,

It has been a very successful start to the new term. The children have settled quickly into their classes and it has been great to begin to get to know the new Nursery and Reception children.

New Staff / Returning Staff

We are delighted to welcome Mrs Nouwens back to our teaching team. She will be teaching Willow Class (two days a week) with Miss Law. This will be to cover Mrs Richards who will be commencing her Maternity Leave during the beginning of the Autumn Term. I would also like to welcome Mrs Perry who will also be joining the Willow Class team.

In addition to this Mrs Bush and Miss Bancroft will be joining the lunchtime MDSA team.

Term-time holiday

Changes to the regulations remove references to family holiday and extended leave as well as the statutory threshold of ten school days. As a result of this I will not be able to grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. Any requests for leave of absence must be submitted at least 4 weeks before the start date.

The following reasons for taking a family holiday will not be acceptable:

  • It’s cheaper to go during term time;
  • First family holiday abroad;
  • Family holiday with grandparents / other relatives;
  • It’s a special occasion eg. birthday;
  • All the holiday leave had already been booked at work;
  • Only time I can get off work (unless there is a letter from an employer confirming this and the circumstances are exceptional);
  • Someone else booked the holiday and they got the term dates wrong.

Contact Details

If your landline, mobile numbers, home address or emergency contacts change then please inform the school immediately. It is vital that we have up to date information so that we can contact you quickly if your child becomes unwell in school.

Important dates for Term 1 and Term 2 are overleaf.
