Dear Parents,
It has been a very successful start to the new term. The new children coming into Reception and Nursery have settled very quickly and it has been great to begin to get to know them and see Acorn Class enjoy using the new covered outdoor area.

Classroom Entrances
The main entrance and corridor of the school is becoming very congested when the doors open at 8.50am. In order to stop overcrowding in the corridor please ensure that children in Willow, Hazel & Cedar Class enter through the fire doors on the outside of the building. Ash class parents should now enter through the rear classroom door where parents collect children at 3.20. The outside cloakroom door will be unlocked to allow your children to hang up their coats and then walk across the Y1 playground and into class through the back door. Acorn Class can continue to enter through Oak Tree Nursery. This means that parents should only enter through the main entrance if they need to go to the school office.

Can all parents make sure that push chairs are not brought into the main building as they present a major fire hazard and would delay the evacuation of the building in an emergency.

Contact Details
If your landline, mobile numbers, home address or emergency contacts change then please inform the school immediately. It is vital that we have up to date information so that we can contact you quickly if your child becomes unwell in school.

Breakfast Club
There are still a few places left in Breakfast Club (8.00am Monday-Friday).

Green house theft
Many of you may have read about the theft of our school greenhouse during the Summer Holidays. If you have seen a greenhouse being moved or erected near to the school could you contact the school office. On a more positive note we have been approached by someone who would like to donate a new greenhouse.

Congratulations to Matthew Garriock….. for winning the Spirited Arts National Art Competition.
His fantastic picture can be seen at http://www.natre.org.uk/spiritedarts/art12/beginning_ending/beg3.php

Green Flag Award
Congratulations to the Eco-team who have worked tirelessly for the past 3 years and have now achieved Green Flag Status. This is the most prestigious award in the Eco-schools programme.
HARVEST COLLECTION
Our Harvest Assembly will be on Tuesday 16th  October.  We will be collecting food (tins, sealed dry items etc / no value items) for the Trussell Trust.

Dear Parents,

U11 Boys & Girls Football Festivals – Great performances from both teams!
I’d like to start this week’s newsletter by saying congratulations to the Woodlands Girls and Boys Football teams for fantastic performances at the 2012 Salisbury Schools Football Festivals. The boys played nine matches winning three, drawing three and losing two. They reached the quarter-finals losing 1-0 to
St. Marks in a very close match. The girls also performed with skill and came 5th out of all the schools in Salisbury. They only lost one match out of 9 and only conceded 2 goals throughout the entire tournament. Both teams showed impressive determination and excellent sporting attitudes.

Harvest Festival & Collection for the Trussell Trust Foodbank
Our Harvest Festival Assembly for parents will take place on Tuesday 16th October at 9.30am. This year we will
again be supporting the Trussell Trust. The Trussell Trust Foodbank provides short term emergency food to
local people in crisis. Last year the foodbank distributed over 34.1 tonnes of food to 3909 local people in need, of which 1071 were children. Please can you assist this work by bringing tinned or dried food for our Harvest Festival.
Urgently needed items are breakfast cereals, pasta sauces, tinned veg, rice, pasta, sugar, UHT milk and fruit juice. All food needs to be in date and undamaged (not value). Please can children start bringing in food from Friday 5th October; this will allow over a week to collect as much food as possible. For more details see the foodbank flyer
that accompanies this newsletter.

Maths Workshops
It was great to see such a good turn out for Mr Martindale’s Maths Workshops. The third session for
Year 3 and Year 4 parents/children will take place on Tuesday 9th October (3.30-4.15pm).

****** Change of Date – Christmas Disco *******
The children’s Christmas Disco will now take place on Friday 23rd November.

Wiltshire Life Awards – congratulations to Mrs White and Mrs Hines
Congratulations to Bemerton Heath Street Watch who came second in the Community Group of the Year category. The group which includes two of our TAs Mrs White and Mrs Hines are tackling antisocial behaviour, illegal parking and graffiti in a bid to make the estate a better place to live. The scheme has proved hugely successful, and now a team of ten volunteers go out in pairs twice a week covering Bemerton Heath, Fugglestone Red, Devizes Road and Queen Alexandra Road.

Good attendance is crucial at any time of year and we discourage any holidays during term time. During the SATs it is particularly important. The information from these tests is used to inform the teaching and learning of your child.

We would ask that parents of Year 2 and Year 6 in particular ensure that their children attend school during Term 5. The 2012 Key Stage 2 statutory tests will take place from Monday 14th May to Friday 18th May.
