Dear Parents,

This newsletter brings you news of future events and important information for the second half of the Spring Term 2012.

Shine 4 Wiltshire Competition
As you are probably aware the Olympic torch will be passing through Salisbury on 11th July this year.  To celebrate this there will be a concert in Hudson's field organised by Wiltshire Council, thousands of people are expected to attend. There is a competition being held called 'Shine 4 Wiltshire' to find a local act to perform on the main stage before a 'national headline act'.

The Year 4 and Year 5 violinists from Woodlands have entered the competition. A brilliant video of them performing Mamma Mia has been uploaded to a special Wiltshire Council 2012 Celebration Facebook page where the general public can vote for their favourite act.

To vote for them please go to www.facebook.com/Wiltshire2012 and click the like button (we are number 49 on the list). Please forward this address to family, friends and work colleagues. The winning act will be announced later in the year.

Book Bags & PE Kit – Reminder
Children need to bring their reading books / book bags into school every day and they should have appropriate PE kit (including trainers / plimsolls). Physical Education is a vital part of the curriculum and children who don’t have PE Kit have to miss important lessons.

Y6 Girls Football Team – The Unbeaten Run Continues!
On Tuesday 21st March our Girls Football Team beat St.Marks 3-0 in an exciting match. They are still unbeaten in nearly 20 matches and have only conceded 4 goals so far this season. On Saturday 24th March they will be travelling to Bristol to represent Wiltshire in the South West Finals.

Launch of our new football kit
The PTA have been working very hard to gain sponsorship for our new football kit. On Friday 9th March all parents are invited to a special Headteacher’s Awards Assembly to show the new kit and thank our new sponsors Drain Services.

PTA Non-School uniform day – Friday 23rd March - £1 per child
Our next non-school uniform day will be held on Friday 23rd March. We would like the children to bring in £1. This will be used to purchase prizes for the Easter Bingo tombola stall. There will also be a raffle on the night and raffle tickets will go on sale very soon.

Y6 Girls Football Team - Wiltshire Champions!
On Wednesday 23rd January our Year 6 Girls Football Team played in the Wiltshire County Finals. This was a tournament they qualified for when they won the Salisbury District Championship. Once again our girls were unbeaten throughout all their matches and finished in great style winning the semi-final 2-0 and then beating Nursteed 1-0 in the final. This means they have qualified for the South West Championship which will be played in March or April.

Newsletter 10/1/12 Print PDF

Dear Parents,
A Happy New Year to you all. This newsletter brings you news of future events and important information for the Spring Term 2012.

Postcards sent home for excellent/improved work
We will be continuing to send home postcards to praise children who have made particularly good progress or worked hard to improve in a certain area. Look out for the special Woodlands Primary postcards coming through your letter box!

Class entrances at the beginning of the school day
Only Ash Class pupils should be coming into school through the main entrance. All other classes should be using the outside classroom doors. This is to avoid congestion in the main corridor.

Lateness & book bags
There is a growing problem with children arriving at school late. This makes it very hard to organise school hot dinners and ensure the correct number of lunches are ordered. Can I remind all parents that school starts at 9am and children are welcome to come into school between 8.50am and 9.00am. If a child arrives after 9.00am then the parent must sign the late register and book in a hot dinner if needed.  In addition to this can parents remember to collect their children promptly at 3.20pm.

PE Kit & Coats in School
Can I please remind you that all children should have PE Kit in school (T-shirt, shorts,
trainers/plimsolls in PE bag). The children will be doing PE outside (weather permitting) as
well as in the school hall.  All children should have coats in school and this is particularly important with the wet weather we have been recently experiencing.

Non School Uniform Day – Friday 27th January - £1
We are holding a non-school uniform day on Friday 27th January to raise money for our new school gates. If every child brings in £1 then we will be able to make over £200.

Book Character Dressing Up Day – Tuesday 31st January
As part of book week we are asking the children to dress up as a book character on Tuesday 31st January. Each class will have a competition for the best costume and the Salisbury Journal will be invited to take photographs.

Newsletter 24/11/11 Print PDF

Dear Parents,
This newsletter gives you information about important events taking place during November and December.

Non School Uniform Day & School Christmas Disco – Friday 25th November
Children can wear non school uniform if they bring in chocolate – Christmas chocolate shapes, boxes of chocolates, large bars of chocolate. One item per child please to ensure we have enough to run the tombola for the Christmas Bingo Evening on Friday 2nd December.

The Christmas Disco will also take place on Friday 25th November. Tickets are £1.50 if bought in advance (from the school office) and £2.00 on the door.

********** There will be no after school club on Monday 12th December because of the Christmas Bazaar ***********

********** CHRISTMAS BINGO EVENING – FRIDAY 2ND DECEMBER ***********

DOORS OPEN: 6.30PM
EYES DOWN: 7.00PM

Variety of exciting prizes / chocolate tombola / children’s bingo games / Christmas Raffle
There will be a crèche on the night at a cost of £2.00 per child. We can cater for a maximum of 15
children so book early to avoid disappointment.

Industrial Action on Wednesday 30th November – School Closure
The unions who represent all the teachers (NUT, ATL, NASUWT, NAHT, GMB) working in our school have voted to take industrial action over changes to the pension scheme. As a result of this Woodlands will have to close for the day because all members of the teaching staff are in these unions and most of them will be striking.

In the spirit of letting you know everything I know, I am giving you advanced warning so that you can arrange any necessary child care. At first glance this seems at least inconvenient, especially for working families, however I am taking the liberty of sharing a few facts with you to secure your understanding if not your support:
-The action is over the proposed changes to the pension scheme
-It is proposed that teachers continue working until they are 68 before they can access the pensions into which they have paid
-Teachers will be asked to pay more into their pensions and receive considerably less at the end

I don’t want to be political but these are the facts; each member of staff has made their own decision.

Homework Club
The final Autumn Term session of Homework Club will be on Tuesday 29th November. Homework club will start again on Tuesday 10th January.
