Newsletter 24/06/16

Dear Parents

This newsletter gives you information and updates about important events taking place during Term 6.

PTFA Summer Fete / Sports Day – A huge thank-you to the PTFA

I would like to say a huge thank you to the PTFA for the hard work they put into the Summer Fete. Despite the wet weather we were able to move everything indoors and it was a very successful afternoon. The PTFA also put a huge amount of effort into selling refreshments during Sports Day this week. Both events managed to raise over £600 for PTFA funds.

Football Club

There will be no more Football Club on Mondays until September due to large number of school events this term.

Astracolour – All Classes and Y6 Leavers Photos – Tuesday afternoon 28th June

We have booked Astracolour to come in again to do our class and Y6 leavers photographs on Tuesday afternoon, 28th June. This will not include individual photographs (except for Y6 where it is offered as a combination with a class photo of Y6). The individual photographs and family grouping are done in November of each year in time for Christmas.

Reminder - The Jesse Jones Cup – Friday 1st July – Starting at 9.30am

Following the success of last year’s tournament there will again be a Jesse Jones Cup for Willow, Beech and Maple in the morning and a second tournament for Ash, Cedar and Hazel that will run in the afternoon. The pupils who want to take part will be divided into teams containing a mixture of boys and girls, and children from different year groups. This should be a fun day and the winning teams will be presented with the Jesse Jones Cup. If your child is taking part then you are welcome to come and watch the matches. The finals of both tournaments will take place at the end of the afternoon (approx. 2.45-3.10pm).

Shunt Day – Wednesday 6th July

Between 11am and 12pm all children will move up mid-morning to spend time in their new classes for next year, enabling them to meet their new teachers and TAs.

Book Vouchers

Due to the success of the Woodlands Book Voucher scheme (during Book Week) it would be nice if as many children as possible could have a new book for the summer. If you would like your child to have a new book could you please send them in with £1.00 on Monday 27th June. They will then be given a Woodlands Book Voucher which they will be able to exchange for a new book.

Milk for pupils in Maple, Beech, Willow, Hazel, Cedar and Ash Classes (not including those who are on free school meals).

If you would like to pay for your child to have school milk please go to www.coolmilk.com where you can register your child and pay online for them to have milk at school.

Newsletter 04/05/2016 Print PDF

Dear Parents

This newsletter gives you information about important events taking place during the Summer Term. It has been a busy start to the new term and the pupils in Cedar and Maple class have been working particularly hard preparing for their SAT tests.

KS1 & KS2 SATs

Good attendance is crucial at any time of year and we only permit absence of leave during term time in exceptional circumstances. During the build up to SATs and during SATs Week it is particularly important that your child is in school. The information from these tests is used to inform the teaching and learning of your child.

We would ask that parents of Y2 and Y6 in particular ensure that their children attend school consistently during Term 5. The 2016 Key Stage 2 statutory tests will take place from Monday 9th May to Friday 13th May. Even if your child is feeling unwell we would advise them to come in for the morning test and then go home in the afternoon. There will be a SATs Breakfast for Maple Class pupils from Mon-Thurs during SATs week (see separate letter).

Reading with your child – Thursday 26th May (Venue: School Library / Y5 & Y6 Shared Area)

All parents are invited to come into school and read with your child on Thursday 26th May at 2.45pm.

Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served.

Parent Contact Numbers / School shoes

Please can I remind parents to let us know your updated mobile contact numbers as soon as they change. There have been many occasions when a child has been unwell or not collected on time after school and we have been unable to contact the parent. Also, please would you make sure that your child comes to school wearing suitable school shoes, eg not canvas pumps, jelly shoes or open toed sandals.

The Jesse Jones Cup – Friday 1st July – Starting at 9.30am

Following the success of last year’s tournament there will again be a Jesse Jones Cup for Ash, Cedar and Hazel (in the morning) and a second tournament for Willow, Beech and Maple that will run in the afternoon. The pupils who want to take part will be divided into teams containing a mixture of boys, girls and children from different year groups. This should be a fun day and the winning teams will be presented with the Jesse Jones Cup. If your child is taking part then you are welcome to come and watch the matches. The finals of both tournaments will take place at the end of the afternoon (approx. 2.45-3.10pm).

Newsletter 18/09/2015 Print PDF

Dear Parents,

It has been a very successful start to the new term. The children have settled quickly into their new classes and it has been great to begin to get to know the new Nursery and Reception children.

New Staff / Returning Staff

We are delighted to welcome Miss Barnes (teaching in Cedar Class), Mrs Aldhouse (TA in Ash & Cedar Class) and Miss Pitkin (TA in Maple Class) to Woodlands Primary. We are also welcoming back Mrs Richards from her maternity leave. Mrs Cox (who is our Numbers Count Teacher) will be teaching in our Oaktree Nursery until the Christmas break.

Term-time holiday

Changes to the regulations remove references to family holiday and extended leave as well as the statutory threshold of ten school days. As a result of this I will not be able to grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. Any requests for leave of absence must be submitted at least 4 weeks before the start date.

The following reasons for taking a family holiday will not be acceptable:

  • It’s cheaper to go during term time;
  • First family holiday abroad;
  • Family holiday with grandparents / other relatives / haven’t seen an elderly relative for a long time;
  • It’s a special occasion eg. birthday;
  • Only time I can get off work (unless there is a letter from an employer confirming this and the circumstances are exceptional);
  • Someone else booked the holiday and they got the term dates wrong.

Contact Details

If your landline, mobile numbers, home address or emergency contacts change then please inform the school immediately. It is vital that we have up to date information so that we can contact you quickly if your child becomes unwell in school.

School Uniform

It has been great to see so many children coming into school wearing smart new uniforms.

2015 Price List: Jumpers £10.00, Cardigans £12, Children’s Fleece £13.00, PE T-Shirts £3.00 (Small Adult Size £4.00), Book Bags £4.50, Waterproof Fleece £17.

Could you please ensure that all uniform and PE Kit is named.

Teacher TD Day

The school will be closed on Friday 2nd October for a Teacher Development Day.

Dear Parents,

This newsletter gives you information about important events taking place during the final weeks of term.

The Summer Fete – a huge thank-you to the Woodlands PTFA – we have raised £1001.51 during the Summer Term – a huge total

I am sure you will all agree that the Summer Fete was a huge success and a very enjoyable afternoon. We made a massive profit of £833 and when added to the £168 raised during Sports Day it gives a total of over £1000! We had a great range of stalls (including many that were run by our Year 6 pupils) and all the classes produced some excellent items to sell. The PTFA worked very hard to plan and run this event and I would like to say a huge thank-you to them. As a result of the efforts of the PTFA we have been able to fund a school trip for every class during the Summer Term.

Young Musicians’ Concert – Wednesday 1st July – 2.30pm (Venue: School Hall)

Come along and hear Year 3, 4 and 5 string players who will be performing their favourite pieces from this year. There will also be a performance from the younger musicians in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Please come along and support your young musician and enjoy our concert!

Stringissimo will be performing on Wednesday 8th July at 4pm (during orchestra time) more information to follow.

Y6 Café Project – Maples Café

Once again this year the children in Y6 will be setting up and running their own café. It will be open on Monday 6th July and Tuesday 7th July from 12.00pm-1.30pm. They will be serving sandwiches, cakes and drinks. We would like to invite parents to buy their lunch in the café on these dates. The children have designed the menus, written the advertising and will be preparing all of the food. Please come and join them for lunch and support this exciting project.

Contact Details

If your landline, mobile numbers, home address or emergency contacts change then please inform the school immediately. It is vital that we have up to date information so that we can contact you quickly if your child becomes unwell in school.
