Willow Class

Welcome to the WILLOW CLASS page.

Remember to look here to find out class news and updated photographs of us and our work. The adults supporting our learning are Mr Mawdsley, Mrs Hines, Mrs Stokes and Mrs Bradbury.

It is 2023 – HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Below, you will find a brief overview of the main aspects of learning for TERM 3 2023.

Within ENGLISH, and GUIDED READING in particular, our ‘core text’ will be ‘Max and the Millions’ by Ross Montgomery (when a school caretaker mysteriously disappears, leaving behind a small pile of sand, a student is drawn into an extraordinary adventure).

The key writing ‘genres’ we will be focussing upon will be a persuasive letter (using ‘The Great Kapok Tree’ by Lynne Cherry), a balanced argument (the pros and cons of street art) and a narrative suspense piece (stimulated by ‘Dracula’s Whitby’ animated unit).

Within MATHEMATICS, the core units for learning will include ‘Multiplication and Division’, ‘Length and Perimeter’, ‘Fractions’ and ‘Decimals’.

Within our CFL or ‘Studies-based’ learning, we will be covering the subjects of; GEOGRAPHY – exploring how the environment and aspects of life in the Amazon differs from that in the New Forest, as well as comparing the challenges faced by both unique habitats; SCIENCE – investigating simple circuits (with diagrams and associated symbols), conductors, insulators and electrical hazards; COMPUTING – focussing on DATA (sorting, adding information to and interrogating databases); ART – studying  the animals of Franz Marc and Henri Rousseau, whilst developing the skills associated with painting.
