Willow Class
Willow Class website write up:
Welcome to Willow class page. The adults supporting our learning are Mr Wakeman (Class teacher), Mrs Stokes (HLTA), Mrs Bradberry (Teacher) and Mrs Johnson (HLTA).
On this page, you will find a brief overview of the subjects and topics we will be covering this year. If you have any more question please do ask when you see us, we will be happy to give you as much information as we can.
GUIDED READING: Our core text in in term 1 is ‘Charlotte’s Web’. We have daily questions on the text itself asking the children to retrieve and inference different information. We also use this text as our class book, and as the base for our setting description in our writing. We move onto many wonderful book through the year including ‘Max and the millions’, ‘Bill’s new frock’ and ‘How to train your Dragon’.
WRITING: We start Year 4 with a setting description based around the farm in ‘Charlotte’s Web’. This piece of writing will build on the children’s use of adjective, adverbs and noun phrases. Our second piece of writing in a persuasive letter, this letter will be written to the Government. The subject of the letter is climate change and we use the inspirational Greta Thunberg as a focal point of our writing. We found that using Greta as a focal point really inspires the children, she was around the same age when she first started her protests. Throughout the year we will use many different styles of writing from narratives to newspaper reports. We would always encourage parents to come and celebrate our children’s work with us.
MATHS: In Willow class this year our major push is times tables. In term 5 we will have our times tables test, these are done across the country. We would like all of the children to achieve their best, so please do practice times tables at home as much as you can. Our Math curriculum is wide and varied this year, place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and shape to name a few.
AFTERNOONS: Our afternoons are stacked with amazing topics throughout the year. Monday is always PE day. As you know the weather can be challenging, however we aim to be outside as much as we can. We will also cover Science, History, Geography, French, RE, Art and Design technology. There is our afternoon timetable on the website for you to see the individual topics we will be covering.
