The Prevent Duty & Extremist Views

Preventing Radicalisation

 

From 1 July 2015, Section 26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 places a duty on schools to have “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism”. This duty is known as the Prevent duty.

 

Children and young people can suffer harm when exposed to an extremist ideology which may be social, political or religious in presentation. This harm can range from a child adopting or complying with extreme views which limits their social interaction and full engagement with their education, to children being groomed for involvement in violent actions.

 

At Woodlands, we recognise that extremism and radicalisation should be viewed as safeguarding concerns.  We value and celebrate individual differences and believe in the freedom of speech and expression of beliefs.  We create an environment that ensures both pupils and adults have the right and feel confident to speak freely and voice their opinions, in a respectful and thoughtful manner.
